General Description
DayGlo SRX latex paint is a premium, low odor,
fluorescent, water-based paint. Maximum lightfastness
and film integrity are dependent upon the use of
DayGlo SRX Filteray W (clear overcoat) which is
described below.
* Studies indicate that if an all-purpose single color is
desired for impact, Blaze Orange is generally best for
contrast with most natural backgrounds. DayGlo s
fluorescent colors do not tend to appear white, gray, or black (achromatic) at extreme distances
and at dusk, dawn or low light conditions as do most non-fluorescent colors. This is a huge
benefit for signage and any product that needs to be seen in a work environment for safety or
efficiency.
** Filteray W is a clear overcoat designed for use over the SRX fluorescent latex paint. The
Filteray W absorbs some of the harmful rays of the sun that cause premature fading of
fluorescent colors during continued exposure to direct sunlight. A topcoat of Filteray W can
double the lightfastness of DayGlo s fluorescent colors. Ordinary varnishes and overcoats do
not have the protective action of the SRX Filteray W overcoat and can do more harm than good
when used over DayGlo s fluorescent colors.
The final surface produced by the Filteray W overcoat is harder and has a higher gloss than the
DayGlo SRX latex paint alone. This means that it will be more resistant to wear and more easily
cleaned. The quantity of Filteray W overcoat required is usually 2/3 that of the paint.

Disclaimer: Our technical advice, information, statements, whether given verbally, in writing, or in the form of test results, is offered
Applications
The DayGlo SRX latex paint can be used anywhere that requires a high visibility brushing paint.
Some of the general areas of use include:
Theatrical and Special Effects: For use in haunted houses and stage painting. They can also be
used to create 3- D images.
Graphic Arts: For outdoor advertising signs, murals, painted bulletins, store signs, truck signs,
and trade exhibits.
Safety: For aviation, industrial and marine uses on aircraft, ground support equipment,
navigational aids, safety markings, equipment, machinery, fire protection equipment, first aid
kits, traffic controls, boats, buoys, docks, and life- saving equipment.
Hobby-Sports: For use on models and toys, markings on easily lost sporting equipment
(boomerangs, arrows, fishing gear) and identification markings on personal equipment.
Lightfastness
The useful outdoor life of the color is determined by the thickness and uniformity of the DayGlo
SRX coating. For greatly increased resistance to sunlight, an overcoat of SRX Filteray W is
required.
The following table gives a guide to expected lightfastness. The lower number is representative
of exposure in southern latitudes; the larger number in northern latitudes.

1 heavy coat of DayGlo SRX paint (1.5 mils
dry)
3-6 Months

1 heavy coat of DayGlo SRX paint (1.5 mils
dry) +
1 uniform overcoat of Filteray W (1.5 mils dry)
6-12 Months

2 heavy coats of DayGlo SRX paint (3 mils dry)
+
1 uniform overcoat of Filteray W (1.5 mils dry)
12-24 Months

One coat of DayGlo SRX latex paint is usually sufficient for interior markings, as the color is
virtually unaffected by light sources other than direct sunlight. For storefronts, panel truck signs,
etc., which must last a year or more, apply a coat of Filteray W overcoat over two coats of
DayGlo SRX latex paint.

Technical Data Sheet

Disclaimer: Our technical advice, information, statements, whether given verbally, in writing, or in the form of test results, is offered
for your guidance without warranty. No warranty for fitness for a particular purpose is made. This also applies where protective
rights of third parties are involved. It does not release the user from obligation to test the suitability of the products and formulas for
the intended process and applications. Our guarantee is limited to the consistent quality of our product.
General Application Instructions
Undercoat:
DayGlo SRX latex paints are semi-transparent and, therefore, brightest when applied over a
clean, white surface. White semi-gloss latex coatings, flat white latex undercoaters, water
based primer-sealers and water-based bulletin blockout whites are ideally suited for this
purpose.
Over old finishes, clean and sand before applying a white undercoat or primer that offers good
adhesion to both the old finish and new DayGlo paint. However, best performance can be
achieved by removing old finishes and starting with a freshly primed surface.
SRX Latex Paint Color Coat:
1. Stir well and if thinning is necessary, use water. (AVOID OVER THINNING).
2. Apply one heavy coat of DayGlo SRX latex paint with a soft brush. Use short strokes.
Cover completely and smooth out as you go to produce a uniform deep layer
(approximately 1.5 mils thick dry). Keep in mind that thin spots or streaks will fade
prematurely. Allow to set-up or “top dry” at least 10 minutes (@ 70oF).
3. Apply the second coat same as the first. Allow 3 hours to dry before applying DayGlo
SRX Filteray W overcoat.
4. For sign applications, the DayGlo SRX coat can simply be roughed in, slightly
overlapping the copy line. Your copy line will not be hidden because DayGlo SCR paint
is semi-transparent. Do not try to work the paint exactly to a line. An opaque
background should be used to cut in accurately to the copy line for sharp detail after the
DayGlo SRX paint has top dried 24 hours.

Filteray Type D Overcoat:
1. Apply one heavy coat of DayGlo SRX Filteray W overcoat (1.5 mils dry). Thin, only if
necessary, using water. This product works best when applied by brush.
2. Allow surface to dry 2 hours before putting into service.
3. Clean brushes should always be used. After use, they can be cleaned up with warm
water.
4. Application of Filteray W will cause the color to deepen. It will have a glossy finish.
5. The use of Filteray W will diminish the UV response of the finished paint.

Tips For Use/Storage:
DayGlo SRX latex paint and Filteray W overcoat may be applied by spray gun. Stir well
and thin to spraying consistency using water, then strain.
The nominal shelf life of the SRX latex paint and Filteray W overcoat is one year in
unopened cans. These products should be stirred before use.

Avoid freezing and close can tightly when not in use. Use with adequate ventilation.

1 heavy coat of DayGlo SRX paint (1.5 mils
dry)
3-6 Months

1 heavy coat of DayGlo SRX paint (1.5 mils
dry) +

2 heavy coats of DayGlo SRX paint (3 mils dry)
+
1 uniform overcoat of Filteray W (1.5 mils dry)
12-24 Months

One coat of DayGlo SRX latex paint is usually sufficient for interior markings, as the color is
virtually unaffected by light sources other than direct sunlight. For storefronts, panel truck signs,
etc., which must last a year or more, apply a coat of Filteray W overcoat over two coats of
DayGlo SRX latex paint.

However, best performance can be
achieved by removing old finishes and starting with a freshly primed surface.
based primer-sealers and water-based bulletin blockout whites are ideally suited for this

SCREAMIN
