Carbon fiber 7440-44-0 > 98

Partially cured polymeric resin

Registered <2 Continuous filament Carbon fiber is a carbon product which is given a specific shape (filament) and dimension (filament diameter). A surface treatment (sizing) is applied to the filament. The sizing is a mixture of chemicals, i.e. film former, coupling agent and polymeric resin. The sizing content is usually less than or equal to 2%. Non crimp fabrics made with Carbon fibers are stitched with synthetic yarns. 3. Hazards Identifications This product including its components is not considered to be hazardous in the sense of the Directive 67/548/EEC and Directive 1999/45/EC. Under normal industrial conditions, product is not flammable and has stability. 3.1.Skin: Directly contact with skin may cause irritation, itching, rash, swelling. Wear protective clothes. 3.2.Eye: May cause eye irritation, rash, pain. These symptoms may continue after stop working. This condition may be temporary but may cause permanent influence as cornea. Wear safety glasses. 3.3.Respiratory: May cause respiratory problems. This may damage throat and lungs and cause cough. Wear respiratory mask. 3.4.Hazards that do not directly lead to a classification: Carbon fiber is an electricity conducting material, it may break up into fine particles. Finely dispersed carbon fiber may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Carbon fiber dust may cause electrical short-circuits when contacted to electrical devices. MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS) METYX Carbon Non-Crimp Stitched Fabrics 2/4 FR-04-2/13.04.2015 4. First Aid Measures 4.1. Inhalation: May cause respiratory problem. Move to fresh air. If symptoms persist, call physician. 4.2. Skin Contact: If skin irritation does occur, remove contaminated clothing and wash off plenty of water min. 15 minutes without rubbing. Use a mild soap if possible. If symptoms persist, call physician. 4.3. Eye Contact: In case of dust, thoroughly rinse eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes. Arrange for transport to the nearest medical facility for examination and treatment by a physician as soon as possible. Remove contact lenses if any before continuing to rinse. Do not let the victim rub his eyes. 4.4. Ingestion: Gently wipe or rinse the inside of the mouth with water. Give water to the victim if conscious, but do not make him vomit. In case of vomiting, do not let the victim swallow the vomit. Do not give anything to ingest to unconscious or convulsing victim. 4.5. Additional information: Mild hydrocortisone skin cream is helpful for skin irritation. 5. Fire Fighting Measures 5.1. Suitable Extinguishing Media: Use foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide or water-mist. 5.2. Special Protective Clothing: In case of big fires self-contained breathing apparatus must be used ad full protective clothing must be worn. 5.3. Additional information: Only the packaging film, polyester yarn and carbon sizing material are likely burn. Combustion gases are basically carbon dioxide and water vapor. There may be small quantities of carbon monoxide and other substances which make it necessary to use protective devices in the event of a major fire. Emission of toxic gases: nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide. When the product is burnt, fine carbon fiber particles may be produced. They may cause electrical short-circuits when contacted to electrical devices. 6. Accidental Release Measures 6.1. Personal Precautions: Provide eyewash stations. Under normal industrial conditions, this product is not flammable and has stability. (See chapter 8.) Precautions when handling dispersed substances: Because fine particles may be dispersed, it is advised to wear a dust mark with P3 type filter. 6.2. Environmental Precautions: No special environmental precautions required. 6.3. Spill Cleanup Methods: Fiber dusts can cause to short circuit. Spreading has to eliminate. 7. Handling & Storage 7.1. Usage Precautions: *Material to be handled with care: Do not cut the carbon fiber unnecessarily. Electricity conducting material, do not allow contact with electric current sources. *Avoid the dispersion of loose fibers: Handle the fiber in well ventilated premises (the ventilation devices should have a filter to avoid discharging loose fibere into open air) where there are no electrical appliances or said appliances are protected in sealed or pressurised cases *Insulating varnish may be applied to electronic boards and electrical terminals. MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS) METYX Carbon Non-Crimp Stitched Fabrics 3/4 FR-04-2/13.04.2015 *Advise for use and incompatibility with other materials: Avoid friction which may create loose and flying debris 7.2. Storage Precautions: Storage conditions do not have an influence on the product properties, but it is advised to store the product in a clean and dry place, away from dust, in its original packaging. Packing material must be prevented to damage during transporting and carrying. 7.3. Special Usage: The person contacted with carbon has to isolate or clean his hands before working with electronic device. Vacuum clean, sweep or shovel carefully in order to prevent dust suspension. 8. Exposure Control & Personal Protection If dust is created and ventilation is inadequate, it is advised to wear a dust mask, eye protection, gloves and clean and dry work attire. 8.1. Engineering Measures: NA 8.2. Respiratory Equipment: Use protection mask with P3 type filter in case of dispersion of dust. 8.3. Skin Protect: always wear protective gloves conform to EN 374-1/2/3 and EN 420 when handling the product. 8.4. Eye Protect: wear protective goggles or dustproof goggles. 8.5. Hygiene Considerations: Use vacuum cleaning for clothing and working area. Wash separately clothes. Wash your hands before eating and using toilet. 9.
