PROCESSING
A prelimInary self-support cure schedule can
be used on a model, mold, or plug. Cure for 24
hours at 77 F (25 C) + 6 hours at 150 F (66 C).
You may attach support structure and de-
mold tool after this schedule is completed,
then apply post-cure. It is recommended to
install thermocouples to monitor the mold
temperature throughout the post cure
process, if possible.

POST-CURE HEATING AND COOLING RATES
Always allow tools made with Sika high
temperature epoxy systems to gel at room
temperature before subjecting them to post
cure (24 hours is usually sufficient). This will
prevent excessive exotherm and shrink stress
from occurring. When oven curing laminated
molds, always place the mold in a room
temperature oven. Increase oven
temperature at a rate of no more than 50 F
(30 C) per hour. When heat cure is
completed, turn off oven and allow molds to
remain in the oven. Never remove mold from
oven until mold temperature has been
lowered to less than 100 F (38 C). A lternative
post-cure options can be used, if needed, in
processing. Contact Sika Corporation s Industry
Technical Services Department at
tsmh@us.sika.com for additional information and
advice.

POST CURE SCHEDULE:
A conditioning post cure at a temperature equivalent to the constant operational temperature of your production mold is
advised. If an additional post cure is necessary beyond the preliminary cure schedule, the recommended cure schedule is
as follows:

2 hours @ 200 F (93 C)
2 hours @ 250 F (121 C)
2 hours @ 300 F (149 C)

Ensure proper heat curing temperatures are met by installing a thermocouple directly in the center of the tool.
Notes: It is always advisable to heat cure cast epoxy molds internally by using the copper tubing temperature control
system built into your mold.
***If oven curing is your only option, it is advisable to complete the initial cure on the model at 125 F (52 C) for 8 hours
or overnight before reverting to the higher post cure temperatures outlined above.

***Extremely large cast molds should always be heat cured internally and not moved or transported prior to
completing an internal heat cure process of 150 F (66 C) minimum.
***Always allow a cast tool to cure 24hrs at room temperature before heat cure. This will prevent excessive exotherm and
shrink stress from occurring.

***When taking cast tools through a preliminary or post cure phase always place tool in a room temperature oven and
increase temperature at a rate of no more than 50 F (30 C) per hour.

***When cooling cast tools, always allow tool to remain in heat environment and decrease temperature at a rate of no
more than 50 F (30 C) per hour. Do not remove tool from heat environment until center of tool has reached 100 F (38 C)
or less. Removing tool at temperatures above 100 F (38 C) can result in thermal shock and warping.

EA-001 Continued

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Bonding surfaces must be clean, free of dust and fit tightly together. Sand any smooth or shiny surfaces to create a rough
texture for the adhesive to lock into. Clean oil contaminated metal surfaces with MEK solvent or lacquer thinner, thoroughly dry and
sand. Please note that EA-001 will not expand into gaps or fill loose joints so bonding surfaces should mate well together.

2. Lightly dampen surfaces to be bonded using a water dampened cloth or water spray mist bottle. EA-001 adhesive requires
moisture to cure however do not saturate surfaces. The optimum substrate moisture content is between 10-25%.

3. Spread a thin layer of EA-001 to both surfaces using a disposble brush or plastic spreader. Use a minimum of oz. per
square foot on each bonding surface (example: a 4 oz. bottle covers 4 square feet of surface A plus 4 square feet of surface B ).

4. Clamp the pieces together or use heavy objects to create pressure. Leave the clamps in place for at least 4 hours until the EA-
001 reaches a cure to handling strength.
