Directions for Use 1. Wash surface with soap and water to remove water soluble contaminants. Follow
the soap and water wash with an appropriate VOC compliant product for removal
of surface contaminants.
Note: If grinding is required use a grade 50 3M grinding disc, blow off the
sanding dust with clean dry air. When repairing galvanized steel, e- coat, primed/
painted surfaces or aluminum, sand with grade P80 3M abrasive to remove the
paint/primer. Blow off with clean dry compressed air and re-clean the surface
using a clean paper or cloth towel and a wax & grease remover/surface cleaner.
2. Sand the surface as needed with grade P40 to P80 3M abrasive.
Note: If grinding is required use a grade 50 3M grinding disc, blow off the
sanding dust with clean dry air. When repairing galvanized steel, e- coat, primed/
painted surfaces or aluminum, sand with grade P80 3M abrasive to remove the
paint/primer. Blow off with clean dry compressed air and re-clean the surface using
a clean paper or cloth towel and a wax & grease remover/surface cleaner.
3. Apply the required amount of body filler to a clean mixing surface. (Do not use
discarded cardboard as a mixing surface as contamination may occur.) The
correct hardener to filler ratio = 3 inch diameter circle approximately 1/2 inch
thick of filler to a 3 inch strip of cream hardener.
4. Mix the body filler and cream hardener thoroughly, to a uniform color.
Gel time/setting time is approximately 3-5 minutes @ 77 F (24 C) using 2%
hardener as prescribed. Spread the filler on the mixing board, being sure to
break any air bubbles that were introduced during mixing.
5. Apply a thin layer using firm pressure to ensure maximum adhesion being sure to
wet out the surface completely. Apply additional filler in layers, building up the
damaged area higher than the surrounding surface. Maximum filler thickness
should not exceed 1/4 inch. Allow curing time of 20 minutes.
6. Sand the filler to the proper contour with 3M abrasives, using the following
recommended grade sequence: P40, P80, P180. Note: If more filler is needed
blow off with clean dry compressed air and follow steps 2 through 6.
7. Wait approximately 45 minutes before applying primer and paint, always follow
your paint company s recommended procedures.
Applications Repair of cosmetic surface imperfections in properly prepared auto body, industrial,
and architectural substrates.

SMC can be used for cosmetic repairs. For structural repairs prone to high degrees of stress and flexibility,
use an SMC repair product.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
1. Clean surface. Remove all dirt, oil, grease and wax with a cleaning solvent such as #1240-1 Wax,
Grease & Silicone Remover.
2. Make sure surface is dry before repairing.
3. Use 40-80 grit disc to featheredge paint for good mechanical adhesion.
MIXING:
For best results, bring filler and provided hardener to room temperature (minimum temperature 75 F).
Stir product before dispensing with a bottom to top motion. Knead hardener tube before use. Place a
4 diameter puddle of filler on a clean mixing surface (we recommend a non-absorbent plastic mixing
board) and add a ribbon of cream hardener from edge to edge across the center of the filler puddle
(puddles larger than 4 will require additional hardener); or measure hardener at 2% by weight of filler
a 50 to 1 ratio. Mix thoroughly with a plastic spreader, using a folding motion, until uniform color is
achieved. At room temperature (75 F) approximate setting time is 3 5 minutes.
MIX
APPLICATION:
1. Using a plastic spreader, apply a thin layer of filler to surface, using firm pressure for maximum adhesion.
2. Apply additional layers, if necessary, building up damaged area higher than surrounding metal surface to
allow for sanding of filler.
3. IMPORTANT! DO NOT RETURN UNUSED MIXTURE TO CAN AS IT WILL HARDEN THE REMAINING
CONTENTS.
PRODUCT USES:
Use for filling and repair of bodywork up to , such as dents, dings, scratches, hail damage and small holes.
FINISHING:
1. When material has cured, in approximately 15 minutes, sand with a 80-120 grit sandpaper.
2. Finish sand with 180-240 grit.

DESCRIPTION
An economical and environmentally friendly choice for a clean, true,
high-gloss surface! Aqua-Buff is a water-based polishing compound
designed to remove fine scratches (1000-grit or higher) and swirl
marks. Often paired with Aqua-Buff 1000F Fast-Cut or Aqua-Buff
1000W Medium -C
ut compounds.
SAFETY & HAN DL I NG
Aqua-Buff should be shipped and stored in moderate temperatures with care for temperature
c
ontrol in transit. Exposure to extreme temperatures can result in breakdown or suspension
of the emulsion. Do not allow Aqua-Buff to freeze. We recommend products be kept
unopened as long as possible and stored in a cool location, tightly resealing the lid after
opening. All Aqua-Buff formulations contain a biocide to inhibit mold growth, however no
biocide has unlimited capacity to control growth. In areas with high humidity, use of plastic
film placed on the material after opening, may help inhibit mol
d growth. For more detailed
instructions on safe storage and transportation, please see the MSDS sheet.
Liability/warranty statement: Our products are intended for sale to
industrial and
commercial customers. We request that customers inspect and test our products before use
and satisfy themselves as to contents and suitability. All claim requests must be made in

PLEASE NOTE
The following use instructions are broad to address multiple applications. We recommend testing for product
compatability with your process. Please contact our Tech Team at (909) 546-1160 with any questions.
Compound Application Guide
(FOR AQUA-BUFF 1000F, 1000W, 2000, GLOSSMASTER)
1.Buffing Pad: it is critically important to link the correct buffing pad to each Aqua-
Buff product. We
advocate a tufted wool buffing pad for fast cut compounds like Aqua-
Buff 1000W or 1000F. For
polishing with Aqua-
Buff 2000 or GlossMaster, we recommend a fine polishing pad. A foam pad
can be used to get the ultimate shine.
2.Amount used: we find that most users apply too much compound and polish. Dab on an amount
similar to a poker chip (about 3 cm across) for each square foot (30 cm) to be polished.
3.Spray bottle: Aqua-Buff 1000F/W and Aqua-Buff 2000
require water in conjunction with
application. The person
doing the polishing adds water by spraying a mist onto the part. The
buffing pad captures the compound/polish along with the water. When the part appears dry, add
more water with the spray
bottle. As long as a milky liquid appears when the pad captures the
water additional polish is not needed. Aqua-
Buff GlossMaster does not require additional water.
4.Heat: a significant benefit of Aqua-
Buff is that the sprayed water helps keep the surface cool
during buffing. Heat can cause distortion to appear in the surface.
5.Buffer: we recommend a 2400 rpm commercial buffer. Wiping by hand will not create the
necessary speed and energy to buff. Compound at full speed, polish at half speed.
6.Surfaces: Aqua-Buff works on gelcoat, Duratec and other composite surfaces.
7.After buffing: wash the surface with soapy water to remove any leftover polish.
TIP: A common question we get is – “What final grit of sandpaper do I need to use?” The answer will
depend on the hardness of the surface (harder requires a finer grit) and the quality of the surface
required. For most gelcoats, a final grit of at least 800 is recommended.
AQUA-BUFF PRODUCT CHOICES see our Aqua-Buff Product Selector for more details
Aqua-Buff 1000F is FAST. It can be too aggressive for soft surfaces, leaving swirl-marks. It is a
grey-white (referred to as “cookies and cream”) color.
Aqua-Buff 1000W is a blue-green color. It works very well on most surfaces, but can leave a blue
haze on oxidized gelcoat or white gelcoat.
Aqua-Buff 2000 is a polish. It is used to remove swirl marks from compounding, or to re-shine
oxidized gelcoat. Aqua-Buff 2000 is a white color and does not leave a haze.
GlossMaster is used when the polisher does not want to use a spray water bottle to leave a fine,
glossy surface.

Quality ConcernComments:
Mousse-like texture
Density variations can occur emulsion production resulting in material which can be
creamy or slightly mousse-like. Proceed with use as outlined in application guide.
Exposure to freezing temperatures in storage or transit and generally not a concern for
application. Bring material to room temperature, and test. If needed, add additional water in
application. Do not allow additional freeze/thaw cycles to occur.Icy participles or
slight clumping
Oily liquid or chunks
Rare issue due to extreme heat in storage or transit. Bring material to room temperature, stir
with drill mixer and test. If material does not reconstitute, select new material for use.

Exposure to freezing temperatures in storage or transit and generally not a concern for
application. Bring material to room temperature, and test. If needed, add additional water in
application. Do not allow additional freeze/thaw cycles to occur. Icy participles or
slight clumping
Oily liquid or chunks
Rare issue due to extreme heat in storage or transit. Bring material to room temperature, stir
with drill mixer and test. If material does not reconstitute, select new material for use.

Aqua-Buff should be shipped and stored in moderate temperatures with care for temperature
control in transit. Exposure to extreme temperatures can result in breakdown or suspension
of the emulsion. Do not allow Aqua
-Buff to freeze. We recommend products be kept
unopened as long as possible and stored in a cool location, tightly resealing the lid after
opening. All Aqua-
Buff formulations contain a biocide to inhibit mold growth, however no
biocide has unlimited capacity
to control growth. In areas with high humidity, use of plastic
film placed on the material after opening, may help inhibit mold growth. For more detailed
instructions on safe storage and transportation, please see the MSDS sheet.

Compound Application Guide
(FOR AQUA-BUFF 1000F, 1000W, 2000, GLOSSMASTER)
1.Buffing Pad: it is critically important to link the correct buffing pad to each Aqua-Buff product. We
advocate a tufted wool buffing pad for fast cut compounds like Aqua-
Buff 1000W or 1000F. For
polishing with Aqua-Buff 2000 or GlossMaster, we recommend a fine polishing pad. A foam pad
can be used to get the ultimate shine.
2.Amount used: we find that most users apply too much compound and polish. Dab on an amount
similar to a poker chip (about 3 cm across) for each square foot (30 cm) to be polished.
3.Spray bottle: Aqua-Buff 1000F/W and Aqua-Buff 2000 are sold as concentrates. The person
doing the polishing adds water by spraying a mist onto the part. The buffing pad captures the
compound/polish, and also the water. When the part appears dry, add more water with the spray
bottle. As long as a milky liquid appears when the pad captures the water additional polish is not
needed. Aqua-
Buff GlossMaster does not require additional water.
4.Heat: a significant benefit of Aqua-Buff is that the sprayed water helps keep the surface cool
during buffing.
TIP:
A common question we get is – “What final grit of sandpaper do I need to use?” The answer will
depend on the hardness of the surface (harder requires a finer grit) and the quality of the surface
required. For most gelcoats, a final grit of at least 800 is recommended.
AQUA-BUFF PRODUCT CHOICES see our Aqua-Buff Product Selector for more details
Aqua-
Buff 1000F is FAST. It can be too aggressive for soft surfaces, leaving swirl-marks. It is a
grey-white (referred to as “cookies and cream”) color.
Aqua
-Buff 1000W is a blue-green color. It works very well on most surfaces, but can leave a
blue haze on oxidized gelcoat or white gelcoat.
Aqua-
Buff 2000 is a polish. It is used to remove swirl marks from compounding, or to re-shine
oxidized gelcoat. Aqua-Buff 2000 is a white color and does not leave a haze.
GlossMaster is used when the polisher does not want to use a spray water bottle to leave a fine,
glossy surface.

Application Issue Cause Solution
Burned gelcoat
Speed settings too high.
Dry surface/dry compound
Adjust rotary buffer to ~2500 RPM for
compound, ~1750 for polish. A DA may not
have adjustable speed.
Spritz water on surface to cool and
provide necessary surface lubrication.
Keep moving across surface.
Chalky surface
Excess Aqua Buff used
Aqua
-Buff compounds cover a lot of
footage. Reduce to 1 poker chip size
amount of compound/polish per square
foot.
Oxidation not removed Compound cut not enough.
Select Aqua-Buff 1000F for
heavy oxidation.
Swirl-Marks
Pad selection is critical. Compound
with a wool pad, polish with a fine
polishing pad.
Buffing pad selection incorrect.
Material selection incorrect.
Aqua-Buff 1000F is fast cut and will
leave swirl marks. Aqua
-Buff 2000
is required to remove swirls and
bring out gloss level.
Compound left on surface
Compounds & polishes break down
during application. Resume buffing,
adding water as needed, to work compound thoroughly.
