Aqua-Buff should be shipped and stored in moderate temperatures with care for temperature
control in transit. Exposure to extreme temperatures can result in breakdown or suspension
of the emulsion. Do not allow Aqua
-Buff to freeze. We recommend products be kept
unopened as long as possible and stored in a cool location, tightly resealing the lid after
opening. All Aqua-Buff formulations contain a biocide to inhibit mold growth, how
ever no
biocide has unlimited capacity to control growth. In areas with high humidity, use of plastic
film placed on the material after opening, may help inhibit mold growth. For more detailed
ins
tructions on safe storage and transportation, please see the MSDS sheet.

Compound Application Guide
(FOR AQUA-BUFF 1000F, 1000W, 2000, GLOSSMASTER)
1.Buffing Pad: it is critically important to link the correct buffing pad to each Aqua-Buff product. We
advocate a tufted wool buffing pad for fast cut compounds like Aqua-
Buff 1000W or 1000F. For
polishing with Aqua-Buff 2000 or GlossMaster, we recommend a fine polishing pad. A foam pad
can be used to get the ultimate shine.
2.Amount used: we find that most users apply too much compound and polish. Dab on an amount
similar to a poker chip (about 3 cm across) for each square foot (30 cm) to be polished.
3.Spray bottle: Aqua-Buff 1000F/W and Aqua-Buff 2000 are sold as concentrates. The person
doing the polishing adds water by spraying a mist onto the part. The buffing pad captures the
compound/polish, and also the water. When the part appears dry, add more water with the spray
bottle. As long as a milky liquid appears when the pad captures the water additional polish is not
needed. Aqua-
Buff GlossMaster does not require additional water.
4.Heat: a significant benefit of Aqua-Buff is that the sprayed water helps keep the surface cool
during buffing. Heat can cause distortion to appear in the surface.
5.Buffer: we recommend a 2400 rpm commercial buffer. Wiping by hand will not create the
necessary speed and energy to buff. Compound at full speed, polish at half speed.
6.Surfaces: Aqua-Buff works on gelcoat, Duratec and other composite surfaces.
7.After buffing: wash the surface with soapy water to remove any leftover polish.
TIP:
A common question we get is – “What final grit of sandpaper do I need to use?” The answer will
depend on the hardness of the surface (harder requires a finer grit) and the quality of the surface
required. For most gelcoats, a final grit of at least 800 is recommended.
AQUA-BUFF PRODUCT CHOICES see our Aqua-Buff Product Selector for more details
Aqua-
Buff 1000F is FAST. It can be too aggressive for soft surfaces, leaving swirl-marks. It is a
grey-white (referred to as “cookies and cream”) color.
Aqua
-Buff 1000W is a blue-green color. It works very well on most surfaces, but can leave a
blue haze on oxidized gelcoat or white gelcoat.
Aqua-
Buff 2000 is a polish. It is used to remove swirl marks from compounding, or to re-shine
oxidized gelcoat. Aqua-Buff 2000 is a white color and does not leave a haze.
GlossMaster is used when the polisher does not want to use a spray water bottle to leave a fine,
glossy surface.

Chemlease
70 EZ
Release Agent
Description
Chemlease
70 EZ is a unique semi- permanent mold
release system developed specifically for the composites
industry, for use where a high quality finish is required.
Benefits
HAPs free*
Multiple releases between applications
Easy to apply
Eliminates the use of wax
Reduces labor time and costs
Provides excellent gloss
High temperature stability
Does not build up on the mold surface
Minimal transfer to molded part
* HAPs are not formula constituents of this product. Standard
manufacturing processes may result in trace quantities
[<0 .1%] of HAPs.
Chemlease
solvent carriers contain no Class I or II registered
ozone depleting substances.
Mold Preparation
1. Mold surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned to remove all traces
of wax, release agents, sealers and buffing compounds.
2. Do a final cleaning of mold surface with
Chemlease
Mold Cleaner.
3. Seal mold with the appropriate Chemlease
Sealer.
Application
1. Mold surface must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all traces
of wax, release agents, and other sealers.
2. Surface should be dry and free of contaminants.
3. Saturate clean cotton cloth (not dripping) and wipe on a smooth
continuous film. Apply no more than a few square feet at a
time.
4. When the film begins to evaporate at the edge, wipe the
surface with a second clean dry cotton cloth. Use a circular
motion from the outside, working inwards until film is left dry
and clear. See Notes.
5. Repeat above procedures until entire mold surface has been
covered.
6. Apply 4-5 coats, allowing 15 minutes between each complete
coat.
7. Allow 30 minutes for full cure. Proceed with production.
Notes
Time will vary with room and mold temperature. Wipe off as the
solvent begins to evaporate. If the release agent is left on too
long, you may notice some smearing or streaking. To remove the
smear or streak, rub the affected area with the recommended
Chemlease
release agent, and then simply remove the excess
sooner than you had before.
Test To Ensure Proper Application
Attach a small strip of masking tape to different areas of the mold.
There should be very little resistance when removing the tape if
proper release is applied. Compare to an untreated mold. (Tape
should adhere to untreated mold).
Touch-Up Coats
Once in production the release film will begin to wear. Rather than
applying a touch-up coat once the parts begin to stick, it is better to
do preventative maintenance. For example, if trials determine that
20 releases are obtainable between touch-up coats, it is better to
reapply a touch-up coat after every 15 cycles or at the end of every
second shift. The above-described action will keep the molds in
production longer and help establish a routine of quality
preventative maintenance.
Important
The recommended number of coats and cure times are a general
guideline found to be more than sufficient in a broad spectrum of
molding conditions. When molding products with extreme
geometries or experiencing low-humidity conditions in the shop,
the customer may find the need to extend the cure time between
coats and increase the number of coats applied to the mold. The
efficiency of a release film is best determined through a
combination of tape tests and experimentation.
Storage
Do not store at temperatures above 49 C/120 F. Keep container
tightly sealed to prevent evaporation and/or contamination. If
stored in cold temperatures allow warming to room temperature
before using.

4) Directions for Use
Compound between 1200 and 2000 rpm using a buffer equipped with a 3M wool or
3M foam compounding pad.
1. Apply enough material to work a 2` x 2` area with a thin film throughout the buffing
process. The product is designed to be used wet and buffed with a thin film.
Important: If too much compound is applied to the surface, product may create a
heavy film that reduces workability. If this occurs, remove excess material from both
panel and pad surfaces. Spur buffing pad as necessary.
2. Start buffing with medium pressure between 1200 and 2000 rpm. For optimal finish,
as the product begins to dry, reduce pressure at end of buffing cycle. Product can be
buffed or wiped dry.
3. Use a soft cloth to remove any residual film and/or sling before moving on to another
panel or before polishing.
4. For added protection apply 3M Boat Wax (36112/36113) after compounding is
completed.
