POLYESTER RESIN
REDUCER RESIN FOR P-17
DESCRIPTION
The SikaBiresin AP017 RR REDUCER RESIN is a polyester resin system with heat resistance of 446 F (230 C) developed to reduce
the viscosity of SikaBiresin AP017 (Formerly P-17) High Heat Resistant Filler Paste. SikaBiresin AP017 RR Reducer Resin can be
added to SikaBiresin AP017 Filler in varying amounts to “customize” the SikaBiresin AP017 Filler anywhere from a thin runny
paste to a sprayable consistency without altering the physical properties or the quick set work life. It is recommended to
experiment with 5% by weight addition or less to stay closer to the SikaBiresin AP017 Filler cured properties. The
SikaBiresin AP017 RR also performs very well in applications requiring a quick setting, high temperature polyester laminating resin.

POLYESTER FILLER S YSTEM
MACHINABLE / RIGID
DESCRIPTION
The most versatile of all set-fast filler pastes, AP014 ULTRA FILLER is a two component filler system which
yields a smooth, creamy, thixotropic and workable paste with superior handling, set-fast characteristics
and dimensional stability. Once applied it forms a rigid, strong surface which can be machined, sanded,
filed or scraped to a feather edge. A P014 adheres and bonds to fiberglass, SMC, RIM, BMC, Graphite,
Kevlar
and other types of composites as well as aluminum, steel, grey iron, copper, plaster, models,
patterns and other substrates. AP014 offers the industry manufacturer a wide variety of applications for
bonding, filling, sealing and finishing with optimum physical properties. AP014 ULTRA FILLER can be
applied without pin-holing and exhibits no shrink or sink after curing. It accepts virtually all types of
finishes e.g., lacquer, enamel, polyurethane, epoxy, etc., without any special surface preparation. It is a
“no bleed out” system after finishing or if covered with a decorative film. Its high quality, coupled with
the set-fast feature offers industry substantial savings in time and labor plus top quality in the finished
product. AP014 can be used in areas of final fabrication, production, tooling, model & pattern making,
repair operations and in many other applications. Typical applications include: filling composites surface
porosity, honeycomb panel edge filler, bonding loose pieces and details, vacuum mold repair and
modifications, urethane mold repairs and modifications, FRP composite repairs, pattern repairs and
fillets, core box repairs and modifications, void and porosity filling, router fixture repairs, crack, dent and
crevice repair, temporary holding fixtures, filling cloth impressions in pre-preg, non-conductive barrier
potting, RIM/SMC/BMC surface filler, bonding inserts/hangers, urethane part repair, potting stripped
threads, renewing worn surfaces and many others.

PROCESSING
PROCESSING CONDITIONS
Thoroughly blend 100 parts resin with 2 parts hardener by weight for 1 to 1 minutes in clean
dry container or on a clean dry surface.
Carefully scrape the surfaces while blending to ensure complete mixing and uniformity.
SURFACE PREPARATION and APPLICATION
The area to be filled or repaired should be thoroughly cleaned, roughened, cleaned again
and dried to allow for the best possible adhesion.
The mixed A P014 should be buttered into the area, avoiding trapping air during application.
After curing to a tack-free state, the material can be sanded and finished as needed.
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
Stir contents of can thoroughly using a spatula or putty knife. Place the required amount of filler
and cream hardener on a disposable clean surface. Mix 100 parts paste to 2 parts BPO cream
hardener by weight; i.e. approximatly size of golf ball (paste) to a two inch strip of BPO catalyst. Set
up time of mix at room temperature will be 5-10 minutes. After 15-20 minutes the filler may be
filed or sanded to final finish.

POST CURING:
All physical property results are based upon post-curing this system. The following procedure provides the best results:
150 F (66 C) for 1.5 to 2 hours
250 F (121 C) for 2 hours
300 F (149 C) for 1 hour
350 F (177 C) for 1 hour
Allow to cool in the oven. This procedure provides further stabilization and eliminates possible thermal shocks for cavity tools that are
temporarily clamped together for curing purposes.

Product Application Procedure for 3D Printed Parts
Material: TC-1614 Epoxy
Purpose of Procedure: To impregnate rigid, porous 3D Printed Parts with epoxy. Infusing epoxy into the surface is a
beneficial procedure to increase strength, improve handling qualities and in some parts, improve aesthetics. Some
systems will absorb more material than others.
Procedure:
Pre-warm A&B material in separate containers to 90 -100 F maximum (32 -37 C max) in a temperature
controlled industrial oven. This will help to lower the viscosity and increase the absorption rate of epoxy into
the part (never use a household oven that may be in contact with food).
You can also pre-warm the 3D printed part to aid in epoxy infiltration. 100 -120 F (37 -49 C) is a good range
but refer to your 3D printed material recommendations for heat resistance in an effort to avoid distortion.
Place a small 3D Printed Part into a self-sealing (zipper lock) plastic bag and fill with an appropriate amount
of epoxy. A bag that is too large will require more volumetric amounts of epoxy. Squeeze out as much of the
extra air in the bag to assure part is fully submerged and coated with epoxy then seal bag.
Allow the part to soak in the epoxy for roughly 20-25 minutes. A recommended optional procedure would be
to place bag with soaking 3D Printed part into 100 -120 F (37 -49 C) oven in a leak-proof, metal container,
and allow to soak for 15-20 minutes. Check part at 5 minute intervals to monitor viscosity levels and for any
exothermic reaction. Larger batches of mixed epoxy will have a shorter reaction time.
Once part has soaked for allotted time, pull part out of bag and drain excess epoxy off of part.
For larger parts, mix enough A&B together so you have sufficient material to brush an even coat over the part.
Continue brushing drips and runs to keep part coated for 20-30 minutes. Then drain off excess epoxy and
wipe down surface with clean, dry paper towels. Avoid using any solvents since it will affect the curing
properties.
*Note that mixing a large mass of epoxy can produce an increase in chemical reaction shortening work time
and increasing exotherm (heat) as it sits. Do not leave a large, concentrated mass of epoxy in a container
unattended. After soaking the part, it may be best to split up a large batch (over 200-300g) by draining the
bag into 2-3 separate small containers and allow to harden.
Hang part with wire over a cup or bucket to allow continued drainage of excess epoxy. Wipe off any areas of
pooled epoxy with a gloved finger or brush. Monitor any sags or drips for the next hour or until epoxy has
gelled.
You can expedite curing of the epoxy in an oven at 100 -120 F (37 -49 C) and promote better physical
properties of the finished material. You can also allow the epoxy to cure at room temperature but an elevated
post cure will achieve the best results.
