Typical ApplicationsProduct Description
AX-5201FR is a 250 F (121 C) curing
epoxy carbon prepreg designed to
produce composite components using
either vacuum bag oven or autoclave
cure cycles. The prepreg system is ideal
for multi-ply laminates requiring a
cosmetic finish, flame retardance, and
high strength and damage tolerance.
Parts built with AX-5201FR exhibit good
high thermal and UV stability as well as
resistance to water and industrial fluids.
AX-5201FR is provided with high tack for
the layup of contoured components. The
recommended service temperature
envelope for AX-5201FR is -67 (-55 C) to
300 F (149 C).
AX-5201FR is available on virtually all
woven carbon fabric styles (e.g.282,
284, 622, 670, etc.) and at virtually any
requested resin content.

40% by weight (284 style / 3K 2×2 twill)

Optimum properties are achieved with the
following cycles:
Apply 10-100 psi (0.69-6.9 bar) and
ramp to temperature at 2-6 F / minute and
cure according to the following:
120 minutes 235 F (113 C), OR
60 minutes at 250 F (121 C), OR
30 minutes at 300 F (149 C).
Cool at a rate of 2-8 F / minute to 140 F
(60 C) or below prior to removing part.
Temperature heat up and cool down
under pressure is recommended, but
not mandatory depending on process.
This prepregis vacuum-bag, platen
press, and autoclave compatible.
Peak operating temperatures
generally depend on cure temperature.
For a 300 F (149 C) cure the service
temperature envelope is -67 F (-55 C) to
300 F (149 C).

Handling & Safety InstructionsStorage Requirements
Store prepreg suspended horizontally to
avoid flat spots and thinning under the weight
of the roll.
Allow product sufficient time (4-6 hours) to
reach ambient temperatures after removal
from cold storage to prevent condensation on
the adhesive surface.
Use the appropriate safety equipment for
this product.
