WARNING
*Serged and bound seams are degraded by some hazardous liquid chemicals, such as strong acids, and should not be worn when these chemicals are present.
*Liquid barrier performance varies based on the amount of liquid that may get on the garment, the length of time the liquid is on the garment, applied pressure
and certain physical properties of the liquid. Tyvek 400, Tyvek 400 D, ProShield , ProShield 10, ProShield 60, Tyvek 400 FC, and ProShield 70 garments
are not appropriate if during use they are getting wet (liquid is dripping or running, or it is wet to the touch) or if spotting is observed on skin or garments worn
under the protective garment. Tyvek 500 and Tyvek 600 offer improved liquid barrier, but may not be appropriate if spotting is observed on the skin or
garments worn under the protective garment. In applications where a higher liquid barrier is needed, consider Tychem 2000 and Tychem 4000 garments with
taped seams.
Tyvek 600 and Tyvek 500 fabric have different fabric physical properties and improved chemical resistance properties than standard Tyvek 400 garments.
**Garments made using Tyvek 400, Tyvek 500, Tyvek 600 and Tyvek 800 fabrics will burn and possibly melt. None of these garments should be worn near
heat, open flames, sparks or any other possible ignition source nor should they be worn in potentially explosive or flammable environments. If these garments do
burn or melt while being worn, it may increase the severity of burn injuries even when worn over garments which are flame resistant, including, but not limited
to, Nomex IIIA or Nomex Comfort garments.
*CAUTION: This information is based upon technical data that DuPont believes to be reliable. It is subject to revision as additional knowledge and experience are
gained. DuPont makes no guarantee of results and assumes no obligation or liability in connection with this information. It is the user's responsibility to
determine the level of toxicity and the proper personal protective equipment needed. The information set forth herein reflects laboratory performance of fabrics,
not complete garments, under controlled conditions. It is intended for informational use by persons having technical skill for evaluation under their specific end-
use conditions, at their own discretion and risk. Anyone intending to use this information should first verify that the garment selected is suitable for the intended
use. In many cases, seams and closures have shorter breakthrough times and higher permeation rates than the fabric. Please contact DuPont for specific data. If
fabric becomes torn, abraded or punctured, or if seams or closures fail, or if attached gloves, visors, etc. are damaged, end user should discontinue use of garment
to avoid potential exposure to chemical. Since conditions of use are outside our control, we make no warranties, express or implied, including, without limitation,
no warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular use and assume no liability in connection with any use of this information. This information is not

Tyvek friction-coated shoe covers or Tyvek garments with attached friction-coated skid-resistant shoe covers might contain silicone in the shoe-cover. This
includes styles TY122, TY121, FC450 and FC454. End users who are consuming these styles and who have concerns about silicone contamination should conduct
their own testing to ensure they are suitable for their application(s).
Tyvek 500, Tyvek 600, Tyvek 800 products manufactured before January 2023 did contain natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions in some
sensitized individuals. Anyone who begins to exhibit an allergic response during the use of DuPont products should immediately cease using these products. The
incident should also be reported to DuPont at +1 (888) 439-2988 so that an investigation can be initiated.

APPLICATION GUIDE | PRODUCT #904-061
The following use instructions are broad to address multiple applications. We recommend testing for product
compatability with your process. Please contact our Tech Team at (909) 546-1160 with any questions.
PLEASE NOTE www.duratec1.com
Prepare & Catalyze
Temperature should be at least 64 F for both the product and the part. Mix Duratec with either a paint
shaker or a drill-mounted mixer. A paint stir stick will not be enough.
Catalyze the Duratec at 2.0 % by weight with a low hydrogen peroxide MEKP, like Norox 925. Only
catalyze what can be used in 12 minutes.
Sunshield is best applied by spraying. We
recommend HVLP air-assisted spray guns. A 1.6 - 1.8mm tip
is recommended. Use 34-40 psi air pressure. Adjust the needle and fan to provide the proper spray.
Additional solvent is not needed for most spray guns. If thinning is required, we suggest the use of
Duratec 39UCE Reducer.
Apply
Option #1: In-Mold Prior to Laminating
Ensure mold is clean and free of silicone. When sprayed in-mold Sunshield we suggest use of a wax mold
release agent like TR108 or honey wax rather than or in conjunction with semi-perm release agents. This
will allow the proper surface tension essential for Sunshield to level and ow across the in-mold surface.
Adjust uid pressure and atomizing air to achieve an even pattern with fne droplets prior to spraying the mold.
The frst pass should be a dust coat that sets up for two minutes before further application. The dust coat
should be a light fog, not a continuous flm.
Additional coats of 4-5 mils can be applied, again allowing a minimum of two minutes to out-gas. Twelve mils
will provide a nice fnish with UV protection. Up to 22 mils can be applied if the part requires aggressive post
sanding.
The coating needs to be tacky free for each build coat to bond. Laminate polyesters and vinyl esters when the
Duratec has set up and does not transfer, but retains some tack. Cure time varies with temperature and air ow.
For epoxy laminating systems, a tack free surface is required. Increased heat up to 120 F will speed this process.
Remember the adhesion comes from the epoxy. Test the bond between the Duratec and your epoxy blend to
assure good adhesion.

Option #2: Finishing Parts
NOTE: For epoxy laminate, water washing with clean water and a heavy duty scrub sponge pad is
necessary before and after sanding. It is not necessary to water wash polyester or vinyl ester laminates.
Abrade the entire surface with 180 grit, providing mechanical tooth. Remove dust and acetone-wipe the surface.
Set up gun, mix, and catalyze as previously mentioned.
Pro Tip: Sunshield can by applied by brush or roller when topcoating wood.
The Duratec may need to be mechanically forced into severe porosity. The frst 2-3 mil passes can be worked with
a squeegee to fll the holes.
Additional coats can be applied after two minutes and while the surface is still tacky.
If re-coating the full cured Duratec is necessary, frst sand with 180 grit.
The fnal spray should be sanded with 400 grit and allowed to cure for 8 hours prior to fnal polishing.

Prepare & Catalyze
Temperature should be at least 64 F for both the product and the part.
Mix with either a paint shaker or a drill-mounted mixer. A paint stir stick will not be enough for a proper mix.
Catalyze the Duratec at 2.0 % by weight with a full strength MEKP, like Norox 925. Catalyze only an
amount that can be sprayed in 15 minutes, typically about a quart if using a HVLP spray gun. Mix well.
Apply
Duratec Hi-Gloss Topcoat should be applied by spraying. We recommend HVLP air-assisted spray guns.
Epoxy laminates should be washed with clean water and a heavy duty scrub sponge before and after
sanding. It is not necessary to water wash polyester, vinyl ester, or wood substrates. Abrade the entire
substrate surface with 180-grit to ensure proper mechanical adhesion. Wipe with a clean cloth. Do not use a
tack rag.
A 1.8 mm tip is recommended. Use 34-40 psi air pressure (at the gun). Adjust the needle and fan to provide
the proper spray. Use the lowest pressures possible to minimize orange peel.
The first coat should be a light dust coat. The
dust coating does not completely cover the surface. Wait at
least two minutes, and apply another light coat. Continue to make build passes of 4-6 mils, with two minute
intervals, until about 20 mils of product is on the surface.
Allow to cure at room temperature for at least one hour. At that time, cure can be accelerated by putting the
part in a warm room at 120 F.
Sand
Once the surface is fully cured, sand to remove any texture or orange peel. Use as fine a grit of paper as
is reasonable. Continue sanding with progressively finer grits, up to 1000 grit paper Allow at least eight
hours after sanding before re-coating or before polishing begins.
Compound and polish to high gloss. We recommend Aqua Buff 1000W or 1000F, followed by Aqua Buff
2000.
