DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals

NHRA racers and fans gather in Indianapolis every Labor Day weekend for the world’s biggest drag race. No career is truly complete without a win at the Big Go, something only accentuated by enormous car counts and fans and racers descending in Indy from all over the world.

One year ago, Doug Kalitta won the biggest race in his career. After 25 years, the veteran driver and perennial championship contender got four win lights at the NHRA U.S. Nationals and won the prestigious race for the first time. It was a hard-fought win that saw him defeat some of the toughest drivers in the category. This weekend Kalitta and his Mac Tools Top Fuel team will be looking to do something that hasn’t happened in over a decade and win back-to-back Top Fuel titles at the biggest race.

“That win last year was big. We were having a good season, but getting that U.S. Nationals win gave us a boost, and we made a serious run at the championship,” said Kalitta. “It was great to share that win with (team owner) Connie (Kalitta) and the boys. I am looking forward to trying to do it again.”

This season Kalitta has held the Mello Yello points lead from the first race of the season with a win at the Winternationals. He has raced to two more final rounds and continued to be one of the most dominant drivers on tour. Heading into the U.S. Nationals after three previous races in Indianapolis, Kalitta is laser-focused as ever on the task at hand.

“You can’t take a round off when you are racing,” said Kalitta. “If you aren’t at the top of your game, you are going to have a short day. This Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster has been running great all season, and I have to do my job when I get behind the wheel. We see more fans at the races, which is good, and we want to put on a good show.”

The NHRA has been working with local officials to ensure racing can continue, and with each race since the restart of the 2020 season, more fans have been in attendance at each national event. The build-up to the U.S. Nationals has been growing, and interest in the sport continues to expand. The fan interest and business support is something a veteran like Kalitta can appreciate.

“We have brought on new partners this season and had to get creative to keep them engaged and give them exposure,” said Kalitta. “Now we are back on track, and we want to show off for all the people that supported us over the summer. Mac Tools, Toyota, Mobil1, and NGK Spark Plugs have done a ton for our team over the years, and the new sponsors have made a huge impact. We also have guys like Osborn and Revchem Composites who help us back at the shop and on the race car every race. Those are the people we want to turn on win lights for and get them some added TV time on FOX.”

As the season makes a turn to the homestretch, Kalitta knows as the Mello Yello point leader, and he will get more attention from his competitors and the fans. He doesn’t feel any extra pressure but does want to perform at the highest level.

“I try and do my job the same every run. With the new qualifying format, you have one day to get it right in qualifying. We will get one shot on Friday night, but I am not sure how much that will help you on race day. The pressure comes from inside, I think. I want to get the wins and do my best. I know everyone on this Mac Tools team is ready to get after this weekend, and we will have to see what happens,” added Kalitta.

Two-time U.S. Nationals Top Fuel champion Cory McClenathan will get another shot at some Indy glory when he returns to the cockpit of a Don Schumacher Racing-operated dragster for a third straight outing at the upcoming Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals presented by Pennzoil, Aug. 7-8.

McClenathan and team owner Don Schumacher originally had partnered to run just the first two events of NHRA’s July Return to Racing at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, with McClenathan bringing Nordic Boats, Rev Chem Composites, and FatHeadz Eyewear as sponsors, and both were eager for those sponsors to get additional exposure once the third Indy event was announced by NHRA.

The team will travel to WorldWide Technology Raceway outside St. Louis to test next Wednesday before the start of the Indy event.

“I’m thrilled for my sponsors and, of course, for myself, for another chance to go out on a high note, said McClenathan. “I’m really excited that we’re able to test and give us the opportunity to come out swinging at Indy. We’re all looking forward to it.”

Doug Kalitta, enters the event as the Top Fuel Mello Yello points leader after his third consecutive final round appearance of 2020. Top Fuel teammate Shawn Langdon and Funny Car teammate J.R. Todd will be looking to move further up the Top Ten standings as the series returns to Indianapolis.
The Mac Tools team keeps rolling and racing to final rounds with Doug Kalitta holding onto a strong Mello Yello points lead in Top Fuel. Last weekend Kalitta qualified No. 2 and raced to his third consecutive final round of the 2020 NHRA season, fourth final in a row going back to last year’s Auto Club finals and seventh final in the last ten races. The consistency and dominance of the Mac Tools Toyota Top Fuel dragster has Kalitta excited to get back to the track this weekend for the NHRA SummerNationals in Indianapolis.
“These Mac Tools guys have been busting their tails,” said Kalitta. “Rob (Flynn) and Troy (Fasching) gave me a great car in qualifying and we got three more round wins on Sunday. I think we are in a great spot and I just want to keep racing.”
This weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis Kalitta will be sporting a new look, the blue and white of new Kalitta Motorsports sponsor Osborn. The race car was unveiled on Tuesday and was put through the paces last Friday during the NHRA pre-race test session. The brand new look will give Kalitta even more motivation to excel on track this weekend.
“We are excited to show off this Osborn Top Fuel dragster,” said Kalitta. “We have been working on this program from a while and the car looks great. I think we are running it a couple of times but this weekend is the big debut. We also have new partner Mobil 1 up front on this race car and we can’t thank those guys enough for their help as well.”
Last weekend Kalitta hit a significant career milestone when he picked up his 700th round win in Top Fuel. He is only the second Top Fuel driver to every reach this milestone and to achieve it at the historic track in Indianapolis was especially important.
“There is so much history at Indy,” said Kalitta. “You look at the U.S. Nationals and all the big names that have won here. I was lucky to add my name to that list last year and then to get the 700th round win here is really cool. I am looking to get a lot more round wins and I have a lot of people to thank for their support but most of all I have to thank Connie (Kalitta) for giving me this opportunity.”
In addition to Osborn coming onboard at the end of last year Kalitta Motorsports has been reaping the benefits of new sponsors Mobil 1 and NGK Spark Plugs. Both of those performance relationships have contributed to the overall success of all three Kalitta race cars but none more than the Top Fuel dragster Kalitta has been wheeling since February.
“We have been having a great season and I think so much of our success has been because of sponsors like Toyota with TRD, Mobil 1 and NGK Spark Plugs. These companies all give us great products and also support and research away from the track. There are a lot of things we learn on the track that goes back to them for use on the consumer side and we get the benefit of a lot of motorsports expertise from them that we use on the NHRA side. It is a real win-win for everyone,” added Kalitta.

Doug Kalitta and the Mac Tools Top Fuel team continue to dominate and rewrite the record books. Kalitta raced to his fourth consecutive final round and picked up his 700th round win on the way to a runner-up finish at the NHRA National event at Indianapolis. It was the first NHRA National event in over four months and Kalitta and his Mac Tools team did not miss a beat.

Team Kalitta & Revchem Composites Head to Indy Ready to Restart Season

Doug Kalitta and the Mac Tools Top Fuel team were riding a wave off dominant performances with two final-round appearances including a third consecutive win at the historic Winternationals. The consistent world championship favorite had the Mello Yello points lead and momentum heading to the Gatornationals in March. When the season went on hiatus Kalitta and his team went to work getting ready for the season relaunch.

“Man, we were rolling to start the season,” said Kalitta. “I think we can pick up right where we left off this weekend. (Crew chief) Rob (Flynn) and the Mac Tools boys have stayed sharp and we have some good data for Indy. I am excited to get back there after our success last year.”

Kalitta Motorsports will be joining forces with Revchem Composites on a diverse marketing partnership at the NHRA Nationals in Indianapolis this weekend. The multi-time world championship drag racing team will be working with Revchem Composites throughout the course of the season on technical opportunities as well as strategic partnerships with the many corporate partners already aligned with the race team.

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision; all of us here at Revchem Composites are very excited about our relationship with Team Kalitta Motorsports,” said Pete Pendleton, President of Revchem Composites. “For Revchem, Drag racing is in our DNA, dating back to 1975. We respect all of the accomplishments of the entire Kalitta organization and its objectives. Teamwork is the fuel that will allow this partnership to attain outstanding results.”

McClenathan returns to DSR for a two-race ‘redemption tour’ at NHRA’s back-to-back Indianapolis events.

Top Fuel veteran Cory ‘Mac’ McClenathan will return to Don Schumacher Racing for a two-event ‘redemption tour’ at the upcoming NHRA Indianapolis double-header at Lucas Oil Raceway this weekend. McClenathan, who had previously announced his drag racing retirement in 2019, is excited to temporarily rejoin NHRA’s winningest organization as he seeks his 35th Top Fuel victory.

“I had made the decision to hang up my driving shoes last year, but I ran the last three events of the 2019 season, and things didn’t go as I had hoped. I was left feeling like I had some unfinished business,” said McClenathan.

When he returns to the track this weekend for the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals, the kickoff of the resumption of the 2020 season, McClenathan will pilot the Nordic Boats/Revchem Composites Top Fuel dragster. Fans may recognize the overall look of the car which closely resembles his family’s famous ‘Mac Attack’ dragster that he drove in the 1990s. Both Nordic Boats, a leading high-performance boat manufacturer, and Revchem Composites, an industry leader in composites and applications expertise with business interests that stretch from aerospace to automobile to surfing, have supported McClenathan’s racing career for more than a decade.

“I’m just so excited to get back out there, see the fans, and hopefully add another Wally trophy to my collection. Yes, I’m here to have fun, but I’m also here to win,” added McClenathan who ranks ninth on the NHRA’s Top Fuel all-time wins list. A win at Indy would tie him with drag racing legend Don Garlits’ 35 victories.

CAMX 2020: Now a Virtual Event

COVID-19 has impacted virtually all aspects of the composites and advanced materials industries. From manufacturers temporarily closing their businesses and reducing production, to learning new ways to work remotely, the industry is much different today than it was just two months ago.

To that end, after many weeks of discussion and careful analysis, CAMX leadership has decided to transform CAMX 2020 into a completely virtual event, replete with conference programming, a virtual trade show, and plenty of networking. We considered many factors, including exhibitor feedback, ongoing travel restrictions and a recent increase in COVID-19 cases reported in Florida. While this has been a challenging decision, delivering a dynamic education and exhibition experience and ensuring the health and safety of our attendees and exhibitors remains our top priority. The virtual CAMX experience will allow the entire global composites and advanced materials community to network and learn together during these unprecedented times.

We know you have questions, and we are working hard to deliver answers as soon as we have them. Here is what we do know:

  1. CAMX will kick-off its virtual events starting in mid-September.
  2. CAMX will provide its attendees and exhibitors with the education, networking and demonstrations that you have come to expect, but for this year, these will be presented in a virtual space.
  3. There will be opportunities for attendees and exhibitors to engage directly, while showcasing the latest brands, products and advances to the industry.
  4. There will be occasions to celebrate; awards will be given, networking will happen, and the show management will do everything we can to surprise and delight our attendees and exhibitors.

Even though we will not be together in person this year, we still want to provide those who would visit CAMX, both attendees and exhibitors, with opportunities to network with industry peers and to advance their technical knowledge.

We recognize the unique situation presented by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) creates a rapidly-changing environment, and we are proactively working to limit any disruptions to our daily operations and our supply chain.

Each of our five distribution centers today are operational and delivering orders without disruption. Since we operate our own fleet of delivery vehicles, we can quickly respond and adapt to unforeseen needs or changes ahead. We are in constant communication with each distribution center to ensure our teams work safely together, and that our daily delivery operations are not interrupted. Our team has also implemented steps to make sure all levels of our day-to-day business continue without interruption.

Our supply chain team is in constant contact with our suppliers to ascertain their capacity to deliver materials as promised. We have discussed contingency plans with our key suppliers to ensure steps are in place to limit any disruptions to our business. We dual-source nearly all product lines today to help protect against potential supply chain issues. At this time, there are no critical disruptions to our supply chain, outside of already expected transit delays on some materials.

Again, we recognize this is a rapidly-changing environment- both for your family and your business. If there are any significant changes to our ability to operate normally, we will immediately inform you of these changes. If you have any questions, please contact your Technical Sales Representative, or you can always call us at (800) 281-4975.

Thank you again for your business and your support of Revchem Composites.
